STOP Act Passes U.S. Senate

The Synthetics Trafficking and Overdose Prevention (STOP) Act passed the Senate on September 17 as part of broader opioid legislation. STOP aims to stop drug traffickers from shipping synthetic opioids like fentanyl into the United States through the Postal Service by requiring advance electronic data (AED) from foreign posts on inbound packages.
A House bill addressing opioids passed in June. The next step will be for the House and Senate to reconcile the broader opioid bills passed by each chamber; the final bill would then be sent to the president to be signed into law.
