The Postal Service’s preparedness for processing international election mail, including military and diplomatic mail, is at risk based on mail processing delays at the Chicago International Service Center (ISC.), a recent Office of Inspector General report has found. The OIG conducted its study in mid-August when the Chicago ISC was still struggling with processing delays due to staffing shortages and restrictions in some countries on outbound mail. Upon a site visit in late September for another report, the OIG noted the appearance of improvements in operations and no mail sitting on the workroom floor.
